A Sweet Life

At the very last minute I am posting my newest journal spread for Art Journal Journey.  I did have more fun doing this than I thought I would have - maybe I am starting to relax and just learn to have fun.  My inspiration for this came from my sweet British friend Sarn at Stamping for Pleasure
She makes the best art journal pages.

Last time I told the story of being brought up by my grandparents and having the most delicious Southern Food.    I all but lived with my grandparents and they always had a garden in their back yard.  They also had a detached garage and it seems that there was always  a litter of wild kittens living with their Mama under the garage.  I would lay on my tummy and stick my skinny little arm way under the garage and occasionally I would get lucky and catch a little kitten.  But more times than not my arm came out with a bunch of little scratches.  YES!  It was a sweet life and I loved being with my grandparents!

I really want to do more work in my journal as I do learn a lot - I just hate messing up!!!!  I would also like for you to visit my friend Valerie who is one heck of a good artist - I love her posts and all of her pictures.  She is so much fun to visit.

Thanks for visiting - I do appreciate all of your encouragement.  You all are the best!

Sandy

I am going to link this post to Art Journal Journey

This is a great page Sandy and I love that silly cross-eyed cat. I like the story about Gram and Gramps place... that made me remember trying to tame wild cats at the farm when I was a kid.

What a beautiful page Sandy, I just love how the kitten is looking at the butterfly, so cute. The background is wonderful with all the little butterflies too and the sentiment says it all really! It is wonderful to read your memories too, they must have been very happy days indeed! My favourite memory is dragging a snapping turtle home in a garbage can and thinking I could keep it as a pet! So much work has gone in to this lovely page Sandy. I enlarged the picture and could see all the texture from the overlapping strips of paper and the gorgeous delicate stamping. I love your cute kitten image peeking up from the bottom, this whole journal page is a delight.

Looks like my Biskit who had somewhat crossed eyes all the time-except when she's asleep! Did you draw the kitty? Sending hugs from the south to the souther!

Oh I love this Sandy, that cat looks so cute - mine always used to chase butterflies, and yes she did eat them if she caught 'em. I know just what you mean about not wanting to mess up a journal, so I bought a cheap one and I've started to relax a bit - I also didn't start at the front so that took some pressure off too. Have a fun week xx

I am so late visiting, but am glad I made it again to hear another wonderful tale of time with your grandparents. I'm sure those were magical times.

You did NOT mess up and when you are working in mixed media or collage, there is NO WAY to mess up. After all, there are no rules. If you don't like what you created, there's always paint or gesso to cover it. There are images you can glue over what you don't like. So be fearless and have tons of fun with it.

Just saw your comment on the SuperBowl. I'm with you. Atlanta is MY team, too. And if that wasn't incentive enough, Wichita has a hometown guy playing. Enjoy the game. I hope I do!

It is really SWEET to hear about your childhood.
And I got quite a visual image of little you reaching under the garage for a kitten or scratches OUCH!
Your pages are really lovely and your playful kitten with the butterfly on its nose makes me smile too.
About messing up.
I have found when things don't go quite like I imagined that that is an opportunity for it to go it's own way. Gesso is your friend :-) It is easy to cover up what you're not thrilled with and you have another layer of richness to work with.
Keep having fun dear Sandy.
Be fearless and play! oxo

Hi Sandy, I've been having some trouble with Internet finally able to get in to comment. I had to check as I thought I already commented here, but wasn't sure. Anyways, after all of that, I love your pages and your cat, the use of napkins is fun. Hugs, Shirleyxx

A great page - I think it's clear you had fun with it. And journalling should be about fun, not "getting it right". I think a few scratches is a price worth paying if you sometimes got a kitten for your pains. Such detailed memories - I've got almost none from my early childhood - another lovely read.

I love phamily stories. I also think your journal page is sweet. I want to start but have so many fears. I have lots of supplies, stamps, paper, etc. Getting started is the hard part. But you are certainly inspiring me here. Thank you and have a beautiful day.
